New releases from Moores Hill

Moores Hill was established in 1997 and sits on a ridge that overlooks the Tamar Valley. While many of the local wineries sit on the valley floor, the elevated site for Moores Hill make it one of the area’s coolest wineries. And that shows in the wines which are super elegant and perfumed, even for Tassie standards, aided by thoughtful winemaking. The white wines in particular have beautiful purity and focus.

Moores Hill Blanc de Blancs NV
93 Points

This is a delicious and beautifully pitched single vineyard Tasmanian sparkling wine showing bright and youthful fruits seamlessly combined with complex bottled aged characters. There is concentrated citrus and mineral fruit aromas supported by sweet brioche and praline complexity. The palate is then dry, mid-weight and quite generous with tangy acidity driving a long, silky and toasty finish. It’s a fuller, food-friendly style of sparkling wine that has the potential to improve over the next 3 to 5 years.

Moores Hill Riesling 2019
93 Points

Subtlety is the key to this Tasmanian Riesling but with a little air this wine delivers. Pale in colour it offers reserved, fragrant fruits – pear and blossom aromas dominate although there is also a more savoury spiciness coming through. The palate is surprisingly textural considering its low 11.5% alcohol with a burst of citrus fruits and balanced sweetness followed by a long and concentrated palate that finishes with an attractive mineral edge. It’s a delicious and understated expression of Tasmanian riesling that has the potential to age well.

Moores Hill Pinot Gris 2020
95 Points

This beautifully unique Tasmanian Pinot Gris is pretty from start to finish. It’s pale blush colour is followed by heady, exotic and seductive aromas – bright and pure pear, custard apple, musk and blossom scented fruits. The palate is then fine and detailed but also textural with moderate acidity and complex floral fruits that are deceptively powerful. Great length and balance round out a delicious package which will be at its best over the next 4 years.

Moores Hill Chardonnay 2019
94 Points

This is an impressive example of Tasmanian Chardonnay showing both excellent power and complexity. Pale golden in colour, it is immediately complex with a dense core of youthful fruits. Citrus and just ripe pear aromas are tightly coiled around spicy oak with crushed cashew just starting to emerge. It is then tight and acid driven – raw fruit and oak with some savoury notes sit on a slightly angular palate that promises plenty with time in the bottle. Long and pure this is an oakier style of Chardonnay that is made for the cellar.

Moores Hill Pinot Noir 2019
93 Points

The cooler site for the Moores Hill Pinot Noir makes for a pretty, subtle and fragrant style of Tasmanian Pinot Noir. Bright mid cherry red, it has vibrant, fleshy and complex fruit aromas with an array of dark cherry, beetroot, spice and dried herb with an earthy undertow. The palate is light weight and supple – silky tannins underpin sappy, spicy cherry fruit over a lingering and fine finish. It is a delicious early drinking Pinot Noir style that is hard to put down.
