Vasse Felix Chardonnay 2019

Long term leaders in Margaret River, Vasse Felix can almost do no wrong in recent years across their range from Filius through to their Tom Cullity and Heytesbury icons lead by talented winemaker Virginia Willcock. They are without exception dependable and delicious wines, which brings us to the new vintage of their Premier and Icon Chardonnays.

Vasse Felix Premier Chardonnay 2019
94 Points

Vasse Felix has made its name for the elegance of its wines although this vintage of the Premier Chardonnay is a little bigger than normal but still has retained trademark subtlety. There is generous citrus and even fresh pineapple fruits beautifully intertwined with spicy oak and cashew savoury complexity. On the palate there is an attractive mix of fruit power with a creamy texture offset by chalky acidity that helps to drive a long and silky finish. It’s great now but has the staying power to last at least five years in bottle. Match it with roast chicken plus rosemary and garlic roast potatoes to see this wine at its brilliant best.

Vasse Felix Heytesbury Chardonnay 2019
96 Points

This is a big step up on the Premier Chardonnay – more pristine, powerful and complex although it clearly needs some time for optimum drinking. There is classic citrus, floral and praline scented fruits with some funky struck match and continental delicatessen too all wound up in a blanket of high quality oak. The palate is taut and compact – the fruit focussed with some peaty, almond meal nuances on top of a bed of citrus flavours. There is fantastic vitality and brightness of fruit underlined by a line of crystalline acidity which supports a very long finish. A superb Margaret River Chardonnay that will unwind beautifully over the next decade.
