Sheehan Wines

Nick Sheehan purchased three distinguished sites in the upper reaches of the Piccadilly Valley: St Margaret’s in Summertown, Allyra in Uraidla, and Willsmore’s in Piccadilly. Across these vineyards, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the sole focus.

This marks the inaugural release under his own label—a considered step built on site and intent. Production is deliberately small, at around 4,000 bottles, drawing on premium fruit and guided by a refined, detail-driven approach to winemaking.
2024 Sheehan Wines Chardonnay
$50 | 93 Points

This is a chardonnay with full flavour. It begins with soft peach cheeks, cantaloupe and wedges of lemon. Some faint frangipani flowers and hot beach sand. Marzipan, turmeric and some warmed butter shows ascents of some classy oak maturation. There is some peanut brittle and nutmeg too. The altitude of Piccadilly shows in the tight laser like line of acidity, with a firmness of slinky skin grip. The way the wine envelopes you with layers of flavour means this can handle slurpy noodles or wide pastas and creamy sauces. Go for eggy pappardelle.
2024 Sheehan Wines Pinot Noir
$35 | 91 Points

All the spectrum of red berries show in this first release, redcurrant, Morello cherries and some darker plump Marion berries too. Savoury oak has been soaked up like a sponge leaving some clove and cigar notes, intertwined with twiggy rosemary and bay leaf.  The wine drinks with sturdy grainy tannins that unfold and allow its juicy line of acidity to drive forward. This has potential for some cellaring, say 3-4 years but if drinking today go for umami rich beef stock or sweet French onion soup.
