Topé Clare Valley “100 Osmond” Riesling 2024 – $28 – 93+ points
Topé Clare Valley “Dual Citizen” Riesling 2024 – $28 – 94+ points
This is my second time trying this pair of Rieslings, and again I thought I should write about them together, and once more I’m thoroughly impressed by them. The Dual Citizen comes from the Clare sub-region of Hill River, while the 100 Osmond is grown just a few kilometres west in Armagh.
Both wines come across as supremely youthful, with aromas that jump from the glass and fill the room, and they’re both at a stage where only primary characters are on display. They both share notes of lemon, peach and chalk, but the Dual Citizen leans more towards the floral spectrum, with white flowers and grass, while the 100 Osmond shows ripe pear and a flinty, minerally note.
As you would expect and hope, each wine possesses searing acidity, the 100 Osmond having a salty character, while the Dual Citizen is touch silkier, with some slight oiliness, and a bit more intensity on the palate.
While I’ve rated the Dual Citizen slightly higher than its sibling this year, with a few more years in bottle, this might change a great deal as they start to mature. But right now, they’re both looking absolutely lovely.
