Menhir Salento Primitivo Quota 29 IGP 2020

Share

Such a delightful discovery wine, it made me like Primitivo like never before. Always a profound moment to love a variety for the first time. The main attraction is that it is fruit forward yet balanced, with none of that usual jam character. Inky in appearance, it opens up with ripe dark cherries, mint, blackberry and plum. It is pleasant, fresh and expressive on the palate. I sourced a shared platter of spicy treats from my local Middle Eastern restaurant. This is a delicious selection including; lamb, chilli beef and chicken skewers, chicken and lamb rissoles as well as couscous with pita bread on the side. The array of spices on the skewers linked with the herbal elements of the Primitivo, creating a counterbalancing effect, showing the wine’s plummy textures as the food fades away. An absolute must have if you like Italian varieties.
