Dead Man Walking is a wine label created by Belinda and John Hughes in dedication to their close friend, Tom Kies. A passionate wine lover, Tom helped develop the brand while bravely battling bowel cancer. All proceeds from the label are directed to a trust fund for Tom’s young sons, a testament to a friendship that endures well beyond a lifetime.
2024 Dead Man Walking Clare Valley Riesling
This is everything you want in Clare Valley riesling, pristine fruit, purity and that zippy energetic line of acidity that puckers and dances on your tongue. It is balanced by sweet green apple nectar and pretty lime blossom florals. The wine finishes dry and crunchy, with a hint of talc like powdery grip. This is your message from the universe, grab a bottle or two and pick up the phone, drop by a friend’s house and remember that we are all just here for a time, so make it count. Drink now or it will cellar well for another 6-8 years. 92 Points
2024 Dead Man Walking Eden Valley Riesling
The Eden Valley wine centres on preserved lime citrus and stony, immovable clay like mineral tones. There is self raising flour, freesia flowers and bath salts. Pear and apple intensifies on the palate for a long drawn out flavour ride. This is powerfully built and will drink well now or in another 10 years. A wine that will age gracefully, just as we do, with more detailed lines and self assurance. A dry finish means this will compliment prawn Har gow dumplings beautifully, or go for a white rind gooey cheese. 93 Points
