Cloak and the Dagger Sangiovese 2019

From time to time, I get surprised and delighted. This wine captivated my imagination. I tried multiple times to match a particular dish until I found the most attractive encounter. This wine is fruit expressive yet complex. It poses enticing notes of red cherry, earth, spice box and milk chocolate. On the palate, it has a vertical presence — a characteristic often found in great Sangiovese. A vibrant maraschino cherry flavour is bound to the tannin structure, by the bright varietal acidity. The fine supple textures speak of gentle extraction in the making, producing delicious plummy notes. In the kitchen I prepared a pan buttered gnocchi with bacon, leek, and shiitake mushrooms with shredded truffle cheese on top. From the outset I was excited about combining the fluffy textures of the gnocchi with the crunchiness of the pan-fried leek and bacon. The shiitake mushroom link with the wine is to die for, enhancing the earthiness. This is an extremely enjoyable Victorian Sangiovese showing flair and an intriguing character.
