The trademark aromas of cobalt flowers are transferred right to the palate in an array of blueberry syrup, menthol, Assam tea leaf and borscht. A spice race of star anise that hands over to long pepper, that passes to bitter chocolate. In a relay of punchy wild bush herbs, rounded blue fruit and memorable long stretches of acidity. This is a real ease of drinking pleasure here, soft tannins with jubey fruit highlights. Where some Blaufränkisch can appear harsh and astringent in youth this is quite the opposite. A slight chill in summer or served beside pot stickers and game night. This is a good time.
Shanteh cut her teeth at Sydney’s Award-Winning Quay restaurant where she worked for over a decade and was Head Sommelier from 2018 till 2022. She has been nominated for the Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year award on three occasions and claims that her experience as a Len Evans scholar as one of the highlights of her career.
