Pizzini Pietra Rosso Sangiovese 2024

Pietra Rosso translates as “red stone”, referring to the iron-rich rocky soils that this Sangiovese thrives in. The aromas launch themselves from the glass – plump cherries and peak of summer yellow-fleshed plums, pressed rose petals and pomegranate juice, with an alluring savoury fennel seed and sage. That beguiling fruity/savoury balance continue in the mouth with the addition of a mineral, ferrous, meaty undercurrent. Fine tannins and a juicy sour cherry acidity provide the structure that promises ability to age, with a texture that begs (with a sexy Italian accent) for a partnership with food. Perhaps a venison and eggplant ragu with freshly made pasta.
