This is one time when a tasting descriptor that reads “interesting” actually means something positive and downright intriguing. The scent gives an inkling of mystery: black fruits, aniseed, Dutch liquorice, thyme. The palate backs it up with a running thread of pepperberry, pepper spice adding an exotic note. Latching on to it ushers the taster into a welcoming world of cool climate Pinot Noir where tomato bush and herbal notes play and mix with chocolate, black fruits amid a slow release force of Pinot flavour that is sustained and, well, interesting. Savoury, earthy tannins bring complexity and depth.
