92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Malbec and 3% Petit Verdot. The reds of 2016 were fortunate to wait out the summer rains and embrace the dry spell throughout February, making for a standout red wine vintage. Predominantly from the vineyards that lie within the Wallcliffe sub-region with a portion of Wilyabrup, Treeton and Geographe. Matured in French barriques of which 40% was new for 12 months. This stands as a multiple award winning wine, so what does it tell us now ten years on? Well it is beyond fresh and still utterly captivating. Bramble of mulberry, cassis and taut skinned blueberries. Coal dust and volcanic rock. The cedar chest oak notes a cohesive part of the whole, where lignified blackberry stem ends, now tree bark forms. A wine of woodsy magic, grated nutmeg and afternoon sea breeze. A triumph and a pleasure to see it in its adolescence, this has another decade or more to go. Jimmy worthy in every sip. Drink now or cellar for 10-11 years further.
