Chateau Tanunda Grand Barossa Cabernet Sauvignon 2020

Cabernet Sauvignon from the Barossa Valley is often underrated and if you asked regional fans for their favourite wines you’d be lucky to hear just one Cabernet in the mix. But Cabernet Sauvignon has a good ability to sometimes withstand some vintages better than other varieties, and in 2020 I favoured this wine over the Grand Barossa Shiraz. Deeply coloured, it opens up with rich and dense aromas of mulberry and blackberry, with a distinctive edge of cedar and old oak in the background. A dry and juicy palate follows with impressive power thanks to lashings of dark fruit which are then given additional interest thanks to savoury, dark earthy tones. Dusty oak then gives a rustic feel to a long, dry and satisfying finish. It’s a traditional Barossan red in good form that will please fans of the style.
