Hewitson Monopole Shiraz Barossa Valley 2021

Share

Dubbed the “Mother Vine” Shiraz as the vineyard was planted from the cuttings from one single Shiraz vine found growing among the 1853 Old Garden Mourvèdre vineyard. Winemaking sees 45% whole bunches in the fermentation and held on skins for 3 weeks with 18 months maturation in new and used French oak barriques. Powerful expression of Barossa Shiraz with a nose full of plum and dark raspberry flesh, choc licorice bullets, spices of clove and pepper sprinkled over warm coffee, gun flint, vanilla, pretzel and umami driven roasting meat pan. Fleshy and sapid with a dark flow and swagger yet held tight with strong intent. Chock full of plum and dark berries with piquant spice, char and that umami savoury intrigue. Tannins are toothsome through the long tail and finally cut through by blood orange acidity. Be in no rush to open this release.
