Miceli Olivia’s Chardonnay 2018

Share

In the Mornington Peninsula it is all about position, position, position with some of the sub-regions – unofficial or otherwise – having a clear advantage over many of their fellow Mornington winemakers. Among the cream of the crop are the wines from Main Ridge, best epitomised by the offerings from Main Ridge Estate. Miceli is just down the road and the class of the locality is crystal clear in this chardonnay.

Still pale in colour, it is a primarily youthful in style and a real crowd pleaser with its rich melon and nectarine fruits supported by praline barrel ferment and vanillin oak – what’s not to like? Full-bodied and creamy in texture thanks to the warm vintage, there is admirable fruit complexity with a nice line of fine, balanced acidity although the finish is a little shorter than expected. Old fashioned chardonnay fans will not be disappointed.
