Oliver’s Taranga Vineyards Vermentino 2023

This Vermentino is part of the small batch range, allowing winemaker, Corrina Wright, to play with a range of new and innovative varieties. 2023 was a cool, low yielding year, so in addition to the McLaren Vale Taranga property, a little fruit was supplied by a mate in the Riverland. An ethereal apple blossom erupts from the glass, then there’s green pears, lemon rind and the savoury tang of lemon myrtle. In the mouth those lovely florals continue – jasmine and chamomile this time, with vibrant citrus and a juicy golden apple acidity. It’s silky and slippery initially, before finishing almost Riesling-like with its crispness. Pair with crunchy fish and chips on the beach.
