Penfolds Bin 311 Chardonnay 2024

Delicate is Bin 311’s middle name. A blend of fruit from super cool Adelaide Hills, Tasmania and Tumbarumba, it’s a wine fashioned around the steeliest of backbones with the intent that it should receive further ageing. It is recommended. Indeed, the winemakers suggest a drinking window through to 2038. With mineral-flecked lime cordial, lemon zest, quince and citrus aromas, it is fragrant and inviting and just a little Riesling-like in scope. There’s a fineness, a delicacy of flavours both citrus intense and pure with light Asian herbal notes married to the firmest of brisk acidity. While the wine saw eight months maturation in French barriques (18% new), the effect lends only the gentlest of input.
