This comes from one of the oldest vineyards in McLaren Vale, planted more than 130 years ago. I’ve seen some terrific wines over the years from Pirramimma, but none better than this. This is a powerful, concentrated, yet refined and almost elegant example that captures the season and the vineyard so well. Intense aromas of plum, black cherry, spices, dark chocolate and even a little mocha. The palate intensity delves deep with the ripe, plummy blackberry notes emerging and complemented by some nice oak treatment. It’s a wine that is so well put together now that current drinking wouldn’t be a crime, and yet it has everything to handle extended cellaring time. Marvellous example of Shiraz from McLaren Vale.
