The medium to full bodied complexities of the Fiano grape have been spreading further from its home in Campania. Australia has cottoned on and versions of the variety are popping up everywhere. Now has never been a better time to drink Fiano di Avellino DOCG and truly understand why this white wine has so much to offer.
The 2020 Tenuta Del Meriggio Fiano Del Avellino DOCG introduces itself with honeysuckle, nectarine, roasted cashews and white, hot, sandy minerality. You know the kind, the dreaded hop, skip and jump path to the beach. Hints of apricot kernel and grapefruit pith lend way to lemon yoghurt and dried rosemary. The wine has plenty of texture thanks to time on lees but finishes up with refreshing acidity and a chalky brackishness. This is a wine for mulling over whilst you devour char-grilled white flesh fish with bbq lemons.
