There’s a quietness to the perfume on first inspection, though it awakens nicely — a touch of nougat making way for fresh notes of grapefruit, white flowers, white peach and finger lime. It’s high-toned but intense, with fine cedar in the back seat and lovely emergent sourdough notes building into the aromas. There’s a good line of weight and tension on the palate, the texture creamy but precise, with notes mirroring the nose. It’s architectural through the finish with chalky grip and a wash of grapefruit and saline acidity pulling the wine to crystalline, long length. I’m into this — a chiselled, unfurling and crystalline Chardonnay. Very smart.
