Why is Viognier not more popular in this country? It’s a grape variety so well suited to the Australian climate and casual dining lifestyle with its bright, fun tropical fruits, and moreish texture. Viognier is all about apricotty, floral goodness and they are generally wines that are made for a good time, not a long time. Some people find Viognier a little heavy but there is absolutely nothing to worry about here as this is a more delicate and zesty style with honeysuckle and citrus aromas plus a touch of spice thrown in the mix. It is followed by a bright and fresh palate – tropical fruit flavours with citrus highlights are finished off by a dusting of crystallised ginger. It is screaming out for scallops with a creamy sauce.
