Named after current Elderton custodians Cameron & Allister Ashmead’s grandfather, Wellington, this Grenache comes from the family’s contour-planted vineyard at Greenock in the western Barossa, planted in 1969. The winemaking approach is considered, with a wild ferment in a concrete tulip and 26% whole bunches. It’s a luscious Grenache, with rhubarb and purple plum fruit and a super glossy and plush texture. As you wade into the palate, up lobs black and red jellybean fruit, malt and blackness with surprisingly weighty, deep tannins and fruit power. What a superstar Australian Grenache.
