Brokenwood Rayner Vineyard Shiraz 2022

Intensely concentrated aromas of violets, chocolate milk and almond nougat soar from the glass. There’s plump blueberries and black cherries, a hint of licorice and salt minerality. This is McLaren Vale shiraz at its best, with ripe, silky, supple tannins and refreshing acidity. The rich fruit and eucalyptus lift are seamlessly integrated with nutty, spicy oak. A burst of raspberry and cocoa powder lingers on the finish. I’m tempted to say to cellar this a few years because it’s so beautifully assembled and has all the hallmarks to age into increasing complexity. However, if you were to open it in the short term, you won’t be disappointed.

Stints in hospitality, wineries, retail, sales and marketing filled the next few years while Nicole built her knowledge and searched for the right path. She completed the Wine and Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Diploma in 2016 and became a certified WSET Educator the following year. She now juggles a number of roles including teaching people about wine, curating wines lists for restaurants and bars, judging in Australian wine shows and, of course, writing.
