Castelli Estate Shiraz 2020

Frankland River fruit. Preferment cold soaked for 5 days, prior to 15 months in 30% new, 45% one year, 35% two year old French barriques and Hogsheads. A good vintage with low yields. Dense and inky, its tarry, obsidian and black fruit is tightly wrapped up with lots of cedary oak. Blackcurrants, crushed violet, spice, barberry, aniseed, and tarry concentrated deep fruit. Aniseed pastille, liquorice strap and salted plum. Give it time and it does start to yield in the glass. The palate has vibrant fresh acidity and tannins are silty and woven densely. The fruit at its core has beauty, energy and life at its heart, though the oak tannins are at risk of overwhelming the finish.
