Cloudbreak Nouveau Collection Chardonnay 2024

It’s not an easy feat to make excellent Chardonnay and even harder to bring it under $30, but Jack Tomich has crafted a wine that ticks plenty of boxes here. Poached apples, white nectarines and yellow plum. A squeeze of lemon acidity and the vanilla flecks of bean in a whipped meringue. Oak is skillfully placed showing some sweet spices but tasteful and discreet to suit the scope of fruit. If I knew this level of detail and handling was available at this price point, I’d buy a whole heap more of it. It’s a fruit tingling wine, with whipped butter and a lovely nougatine finish. Impressive and exciting. Serve with pan roasted king prawns and garlic aioli.
