Just juice, well almost. The Deep Down Pinot Noir is as natural as wine gets. No additions, nothing. Just Pinot Noir juice, fermented with wild yeasts aged and bottled with nothing added, then unfiltered and unfined.

It’s the 10/5 Pinot Noir clone, which is not a clone that you hear much about, but Clive Dougall thought it would be a good match for a wine without any additions. It’s got bigger bunches, bigger berries and higher acid, and the fruit was sourced from 30 year old vines.

This wine is a wild ride. Savoury, earthy, spicy with a touch of mushroom and with the crystal-clear sour cherry fruits seen in Beaujolais from the town of of Fleurie. It’s got a lovely purity and brightness of fruit , plus exceptional balance with concentration and length. The wine is also alive in the glass – it changes quickly, tasting different from one minute to the next. Delicious.
