Gibson Wines Burkes Hill Eden Valley Riesling 2021

I met Rob Gibson about twenty years ago and in the years since the wines have always delivered a good dose of the man himself. Character, personality and stacks of flavour. And while he might be best known for his red wines Rob also has a good touch with riesling, as displayed here. Eden Valley often start its life a little shy but this wine is already well and truly open for business. Pale in colour, it’s expressive and bright. Stony minerality and roses lime aromas show good precision and focus. The palate is more expressive with pear and citrus flavours supported by a fine acid line to a reasonably long finish. It will age but I reckon drink this on the young side while its youthful personality is at its most vibrant, preferably with calamari.
