Brings the Italian variety’s famous ‘bite’ – like sucking on grapefruit pith – to the glass, adding an extra layer to what is a little textural, flavoursome wonder. Vermentino can be quite shy, not so here. Sourced from Metcalfe, on the Macedon Ranges-Heathcote border, it boasts scents in apple blossom, wild chervil, grapefruit and Meyer lemon. Plenty of flavour mixes with a warm texture before finishing brisk and clean. Amid the citrus and almond kernel there are touches of an earthy savoury influence and that characteristic almond skin or grapefruit pith bitter bite. Delish.
