The naming of many of the Henschke wines are emotional dedications to previous family members and their enduring legacies, here for Stephen H’s great uncle Julius Henschke who was a renowned craftsman, artist and sculptor, his most celebrated work being Adelaide’s moving war memorial on North Terrace. The marble connection also points to a quarry near the eastern Barossa town of Angaston, which also is close to a 1970s planted Light Pass district vineyard where their 100% Cabernet Sauvignon is grown. Its varietal touch points are unmistakably blueberry, red and green peppers in a savoury vegetable braise, with appealing garden notes offering elements of interest through a plump berry fruit centre, dusted with fine chalky tannins. Cleverly crafted as a site focussed expression.
