Hewitson Mad Hatter Shiraz, Barossa Valley, SA 2019

Morello cherries are the first thing that comes to mind when smelling this wine. A more serious and brooding wine with chewy tannins that are powdery not coarse with warmed plum pudding and baking spices. The savoury, gravel edge is a nice foil for the fruit ripeness and the weight of the wine handles the alcohol. Deft oak adds density, finishing with a liveliness and freshness that I appreciate. Really smart wine.
