Mount Avoca Old Vine Shiraz 2019

Of all the recent releases from Mount Avoca, this Old Vine Shiraz is the standout with its wonderful combination of power and subtlety plus a solid structure that will see it drink well over the medium term. Hearty, savoury and a delicious drink it has many layers of fruit that keep you coming back for more.

It is a deep ruby colour and that similar concentration is visible throughout the wine with a lovely purity of concentrated blackberry and liquorice fruits nicely topped with spice, eucalyptus and subtle oak. It is then dry and only mid-weight but carries with it both power and brightness of youthful fruit. It is also quite chewy and robust on the palate with meaty, spicy and tobacco elements also emerging on what is a long and engaging finish. Although slightly closed now, the wine is already delicious to drink and will be for some time to come.
