Mount Avoca The Calling Shiraz 2017

Share

The Calling is Mount Avoca’s Everest, their pinnacle wine made from a small patch of 50 year old vines which is then matured for three years in oak. It has had the kitchen sink and then some thrown in to provide what is a power-packed style for this side of the world.

Deeply coloured, the fruit has great concentration in a ripe and jammy style. Decadent blackberry and blueberry fruits are amply supported but not overwhelmed by significant oak, and some regional spice also sits underneath that luscious fruit. The palate is dense and full-bodied with plenty of tannins which with some spiky acidity gives a slightly hard finish. It is a wild ride that will please many and like all the Mount Avoca reds is well matched to hearty casseroles and stews such as ratatouille.
