Peter Lehmann Margaret Semillon 2015

Peter Lehmann Semillon used to be my goto white wine. Dependable, highly underpriced for its quality and also a super refreshing dry white with good complexity that could age well under the bed. I used to drag it around to any and every occasion with no complaints. The Margaret Semillon is the premium version of that same wine, with this vintage made with fruit from Vine Vale and Light Pass.

It is made to be an ageworthy style, picked earlier than the standard label to retain its citrussy fruit and firm acidity. The 2015 vintage in particular has quite the acid bite. Pale in colour, there are aromas of lemon rind and dried grass with the barest hint of lanolin aged complexity. The palate is then light and fresh driven hard by that super-zesty acidity. I see this as a younger drinking vintage of Margaret probably best enjoyed bright and fresh over the next five years before that firm acidity takes charge.
