Opens with an aromatic splurge of violet, cherry, raspberry and plum. It’s all about the fruit and attractive floral aromatics. Spice – dark and intense – is strong in this one which is a strength of both the wine and the grape variety. So, too, lingering confection and pastille notes. They mix it with blueberry fruits, anise, spearmint and a gamey savouriness that rises mid-palate. Tannins are pliable and willing, working with the fruit to produce a well-rounded mouthfeel. Not as sustained on the finish as it might be, but nevertheless fab drinking in the medium term.
