Squitchy Lane Vineyard Pinot Noir 2018

One of the things I love about the Yarra Valley is that there is always something new to discover. Or not so new – Squitchy Lane was established by Mike Fitzpatrick (of football fame) back in 1996.

New or not, there is plenty to love about this Pinot Noir. Heirloom roses – the heady kind that tempt you to snip a bloom from a neighbour’s yard, red delicious apple skin, fresh blueberries dipped in vanilla-scented yoghurt. Pleasingly released with bottle age, it offers rhubarb fresh from the farmers market, and a hint of early-morning rainforest floor – earthy and musky.

It’s light and supple with silky tannins, and acidity resembling  jewel-like redcurrants that burst between your teeth. Such impressive quality at this price point.

Pair it with fresh pasta and rich mushroom ragu. With the money you’ve saved on the wine, treat yourself to a generous shaving of winter truffles.
