Ulithorne Frux Frugis Shiraz 2019

Share

Sourced from a single vineyard in Blewitt Springs from old bush vines, the grapes are crushed with 40% whole bunches and then basket pressed.  Matured in a mix of French and American hogsheads for 12 months before an additional 12 months in bottle. The pedigree of old vine material shows in the brooding blackberry, blood plum and sapote fruit here. There is underlying cocoa nibs, soft licorice and allspice with heady aromas of clove, dark chocolate and dried Ancho chillies. The palate changes pace with silty but firm tannins, driving acidity and a real presence to the overall texture and chomp of the wine. This is bold but beautiful. A wine that will live for quite a bit longer and speaks to the thoughtfulness of long-term cellaring. Perhaps another 8 years or so. Drink with a crumbling aged cheddar or parmesan.
