Bridget Mac is all about small-batch wines from cool-climate sites, crafted with a light touch and plenty of personality. Thoughtful farming, minimal intervention and a focus on purity, texture and place are the name of the game. The nose is classic Gewürz, the volume is turned up – rose petal, juicy pink grapefruit, lychee and a whisper of baked bread from subtle lees contact. The palate is modern and fresh: white flowers, orchard fruit, kaffir lime and lychee, all wrapped in flinty freshness. There is elegance and precision here, with electric acidity, lemon balm and a finish that just refuses to quit. A lick of sweetness gives the wine a sleekness and beautiful pillowy texture. One of the most impressive Australian Gewürztraminers I’ve tried. Bring on the five-spice pork and prawn dumplings.
