Below & Above Chardonnay 2020

Well, it is nice to have some age on this pre-release. Creamy on the nose, golden, white florals, lemon-drop curd, and freshly whipped butter. A harmonious trio of flint, lacy minerality and wet stone add interest and dance with notes of curry leaf and dried ginger. There’s a generous mouthfeel but a lovely linear shape and drive. Breadth and peach skin texture on the palate with nougat, crushed almond and more spices here – coriander seed and a little cumin. Wrapped up in, but not overpowered by, oak. A few flickers of spring growth and a long acid thread keep this taut and energetic. The finish has length and real flint, with an almost umami edge of toast. Think butter on toast – crunchy yet creamy and melt in your mouth. A harmony of sensation in a well-crafted Chardonnay. Just yum.
