Below & Above Pinot Noir 2020

Earthy and aches of undergrowth and autumnal decay. Red fruits simmer underneath, but this is not a fruit-forward wine. Red peppercorns stud bundles of spice; clove, aniseed, crushed pepper, and unfurling incense. Mushroom and umami, there’s a thin scrape of marmite and pulverised graphite intertwined with crushed leaves underfoot. A hint of cured meat, just enough reduction to keep this walking a fine line of fruit and earth. The palate is super silky and smooth with length, interest and balance. A mid-weight Pinot with delicate, melting tannins that belie fruit weight. Simmering acidity holds tension, and oak is used judiciously.
