Spanish varieties are mucho popular at the moment, so this blend of cinco rojas (five reds) makes lots of sense. Sourced from the relatively cool climes of Great Western, the blend includes Garnacha (Grenache), Graciano, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Tinta Cão and Touriga Nacional, although B&G claim that the proportions of each grape in the mix are a mystery even to them. Fair enough. What matters is how it smells and tastes, and both are lovely. With two years of age, there’s a mix of primary and tertiary characters: raspberry, black cherry, bramble, plum, herbs, stewed fruit and dried black fruits. It’s juicy and inky on the palate, with lingering length. Tasty drop.
