This was not what I was expecting from Blackstone Paddock – this is a very serious Margaret River Cabernet and no surprise it has already scored 5 Gold Medals. It’s very deeply coloured which is the first hint that this is going to be a quality wine. Then it also has classic Margaret River aromas – fruit pastilles, gravel and bay leaf all nicely interwoven in with some toasty oak. And then in the mouth it goes up a couple of notches again, with intense fruit matched by structural tannins. It is big and bold so best enjoyed now with a serious rump steak although also has what it takes to improve in the bottle over the next ten years.
