The Verona vineyard has never got the recognition it deserves – sitting across the road from Graveyard and planted in similar red clay soils. It crafts superb examples of the classic Hunter style and has done so again in 2019. There is superb purity of fruit to be found here- raspberry, meat and spice wound up in a blanket of oak. The palate is dry and quite explosive – the fruit bright and lush and with its superb fruit complexity just starting to emerge and undepinned by balanced tannins that help to drive a long and silky finish. A classic Hunter red and great drink now but its best will be in ten years with roast duck.
Released November 2021
