The really big leap forward for the Patricia range – if you take out the marvellous botrytis and sparkling wines – has been with chardonnay. And it is the result of Brown Brothers decision some years ago to put a toe and then a giant footprint in Tasmania. The fruit for this excellent chardonnay now comes from East and North-East Tasmania. The use of whole bunch pressing has introduced a tight structural core while the white peachy stone fruit nuances cling to the frame creating a beautiful mouthfeel. It has a distinct minerally thread with a slightly chalky character which add to a classy, tightly controlled chardonnay, showing the progress Brown Brothers have made with this variety since focussing on Tassie.
