Burton McMahon Syme Vineyard Pinot Noir 2021

Share

Love the concept of the Burton McMahon wines and their partnership which explores a range of vineyards in the Yarra which each create quite unique local expressions. The Syme is very different from the George’s Pinot Noir, thanks to its cooler site with the 2021 vintage not yet ready to enjoy. Brooding, reserved and understated, it slowly opens up with dark cherry compote, mushroom and rhubarb fruits with subtle new oak sitting in place. It’s also quite firm and chewy – you can almost taste the volcanic soils – with a strong earthy personality over a bed of dark berry fruits before a long and strong finish. Excellent tension between acid, tannins and fruit point to strong ageing potential – this really will be something very special with time under its belt. It’s also astonishingly good value Pinot Noir.
