This was a very good year in McLaren Vale and it’s been captured superbly in this now mature Cabernet Franc. It shows that this variety can stand up in its own right and, when the season is good, produce wine of strength and powerful intensity while retaining the elegance and refinement that is typical of this variety in Australia. It’s showing some nice, slightly gamey black fruit characters on the nose with a little spicy leather. The palate is well crafted with good oak influence and a fine chalky tannin influence that threads through to sustain the finish. For me, this wine is drinking just about where it should right now, although a few extra years wouldn’t hurt it.
