Greenock Creek Four Cuttings Cabernet Sauvignon 2019

This is a good effort for a variety that can be difficult in the Barossa Valley. While the Barossa can turn out spectacular cabernet it is, moreso than shiraz, very dependant on the vintage. Made with fruit from Light Pass this is a big wine with lashings of dark fruit flavour – blackberry and blackcurrant in particular with a dusting of dried herbs. Only 15% new French Oak adds a nice savoury edge, and is relatively restrained in comparison to the rich fruit. The palate is then a freight train of full-bodied dark fruits, chewy tannins and bright acidity with oak again in balance. It’s got some serious structure so you really want to give this wine around five years after which time it will deliver plenty of flavour and complexity.
