Greenock Creek Jaensch Block Shiraz 2019

This is the first vintage of this wine and with it, we move from the traditional sub-regions of Seppeltsfield and Marananga to the Westlake family’s Moppa vineyards. On one hand, perhaps one should grant some dispensation for a first release, but whether you do that or not, this is still a very fine wine.

Very dark red in colour. At this stage, it is a little broad. Notes of dried fruits, figs, florals, blackberries, game and red currants. An attractive wine and one which is more approachable at this early stage than most of the wines in this release. It probably does not have quite as long a life ahead of it as some of the wines. No problem. Drink this while you wait for the others to come around. There are slightly grainy tannins so this is a wine that will provide a lot of pleasure over the next decade.
