Ironcloud Wines The Alliance Cabernet Malbec 2018

Share

For me, this is the wine from Ironcloud that could seriously put them on the map. Yes the Alliance Chardonnay is great but if I was growing grapes in Geographe, well on the road from Perth to Margaret River, I’d be punting for cabernet sauvignon with a local twist. And Malbec is a top place to start, as it does not mind warm sunshine, as seen in the global success of wines from Argentina.

Deeply coloured, this is a brooding, concentrated, and youthful red that brings with it those sweet earthy tones of malbec. The fruit is compact and concentrated – inky, blackberry fruits are dense, ripe and well balanced with toasty oak. It’s powerful and fleshy, the fruit perfectly ripened with some tangy acidity and chewy tannins sitting underneath. It finishes long and strong – with some more savoury earthy and meaty tones rounding off a delicious package. Try to keep your hands off for a while or enjoy it with a simple roast fillet of beef.
