Jilyara Heath Road Malbec 2021

Malbec is often a blending partner for Cabernet Sauvignon in Margaret River so it’s a delight to see it as the starring variety. Labelled as ‘Malbec’, this time a splash of Petit Verdot plays a supporting role. There’s aromas of dried violets, plush black cherries and blackberries. Enticing white pepper spice and cacao nibs add savoury complexity. On the palate it is richly concentrated with a satin-like texture. The fruit is bursting with ripeness but doesn’t stray into jam. There’s structural tannins that are round and silky and a bright blood plum acidity. This is the kind of wine you can ponder, but also crack open to please any dinner guest.
