John Duval Wines Entity Shiraz 2019

Share

If you are looking for an exceptional, well priced and sophisticated Barossa shiraz John Duval’s Entity must be in the top handful of wines, if not the leading contender. These are wines that always mix power and poise in a stylish package. And again here, the low-yielding 2019 vintage is on show although the wine admirably retains its shape.

Very deep ruby in colour, it explodes with kirsch, fruit pastilles and black olive aromas wound up tightly by high quality oak. It is still a little bit closed but already absolutely moreish and delicious. That is then followed by a palate that is dry, firm, young and tight, with a super balance of dark fruits over ample tannins. There is an attractive layer of spice too – cinnamon and fennel seed – that helps it to retain brightness and subtlety before a long and rich finish. A super wine that will cellar nicely, if you can keep your hands off it.
