Marchesi di Gresy Gaiun Martinenga Barbaresco 2016

A single block selection that begins with familiar local signatures of woodsmoke and roses, though here with an extra element of what one imagines is roasted orange and a chinotto kind of aromatic. All these notes rise into a mid-palate crescendo taking in fennel root, thyme and integrated oak sensories, layered with deliciously powdery and resolved tannins. Lots going on and plenty of character to impress.
